All law enforcement in NC is required by the North Carolina General Statute to annually collect and publish statistics on the use of deadly force by law enforcement officers. ncga.state.nc.us/EnactedLegislation/Statutes.
Some recently passed legislation affecting all police departments across NC included:
NC House Bill 972: Law Enforcement Recordings/No Public Record. Signed into law in July 2016 regarding the release of body camera footage.
NC House Bill 1044: Law Enforcement Omnibus Bill. Signed into law in July 2016 regarding the establishment of the Blue Alert System to aid in the apprehension of suspects who kill or inflict serious bodily injury on a law enforcement officer.
